Head Coach

Jarratt Raj

Jarratt’s fitness journey began in the Singapore Armed Forces' Commando Battalion, where he faced the challenge of passing special forces selection while managing chronic shoulder dislocations. This personal struggle drove him to look beyond standard training, leading him to study unconventional methods including gymnastic strength training, yoga, and traditional tools like clubbells, macebells, and kettlebells specifically for injury rehabilitation and prevention.

As a lifelong martial artist and outdoor enthusiast, Jarratt's experiences in these fields deeply shaped his training philosophy. He began training specifically to meet the long-term, functional demands of these pursuits, which shifted his focus toward movement quality, joint capacity, and longevity. This commitment to functional resilience has become the cornerstone of his expertise.

Recognized as the pre-eminent specialist in both the club and mace in Singapore, Jarratt has traveled to India multiple times to deepen his understanding of these ancient implements at their source. He has since shared this knowledge by conducting various workshops and the first mace and club certification courses in Singapore, further establishing his authority in the field.

At The High Ground, Jarratt translates this expertise into a coaching curriculum that helps individuals improve their "capacity for life" by blending ancient methods with modern, science-backed protocols. Recently, he has applied this philosophy to training seniors, utilizing a systematic and measured approach to improve their movement and work capacity through science-backed principles.

Coach

Hadi Danial

Hadi’s fitness journey began when he was serving his national service which served as a wake up call to his fitness level at that time. He started to allocate his after hours rest time to training in the fitness corner with a goal of passing his fitness tests. What started as a goal slowly became a hobby as he got more intrigued with bodyweight training. This curiousity was the launchpad for his fitness endeavors.

Over the years, Hadi started to incorporate strength training and mobility focused movements into his training. Through personal injuries was when he started to be more attentive to rehabilitation training. Hadi considers his personal style as a jack of all trades. He is experimental with his approach to training and willing to adopt new ideas. As a coach he believes that he should be exposed to multiple approaches to fitness in order to serve individuals with various needs and goals.

Coach

Joyce

Joyce first started her yoga with Hatha Yoga in 2011/12 in a typical yoga studio. The reason for starting yoga was because she was having numb pinky fingers. She also joined an association in 2012, Nikam Guruji Yoga Kutir & started attending the free Hatha yoga classes. After receiving Nikam Guruji Kutir Yoga in-house Volunteer Instructors’ training in December 2012, Joyce started volunteering 3 times a week with the association, teaching free Hatha yoga in the locations they used (IMM, JCube & the Indian Global International school at Queenstown).

Joyce discovered Ashtanga Yoga in 2014 and was drawn to its physical challenge, powerful breathwork, and calming effect on the mind. Joyce has been practising Ashtanga Yoga with James since 2015. Yoga has become a journey of self-discovery, strength, and balance.

After completing her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in May 2019, Joyce began teaching and sharing her practice with students of all levels. She offers Ashtanga Yoga, The Active Series, Hatha Yoga, and Myring Yoga, with classes that encourage mindful movement, body awareness, and a deeper connection with oneself.

Michelle Goh

Michelle began her yoga journey in 2014 through self-practice. Her passion for yoga deepened through two yoga retreats in Pai, Chiang Mai (2014) and Luang Prabang, Laos (2016), which inspired her to pursue Yoga Teacher Training in 2016.

She went on to teach Strength & Flexibility at The Yoga Mandala from 2016 to 2019, incorporating strengthening and stretching practices to help students build physical strength, improve flexibility, mobility and body awareness.

At The High Ground, Michelle combines fluid, dynamic sequences with mindful movement, breath awareness and intentional breathwork. Coach

Kyne Chan

Kyne is a coach who specialises in functional strength training, built on a simple idea: strength that looks good on paper should carry over into real life. His clients work toward measurable goals, from a deep, comfortable squat to a 1.5x bodyweight back squat, while building the kind of strength that holds up in everyday movement. Mobility and joint health sit at the heart of his coaching. Shaped by his 200-hour yoga teacher training, Kyne builds mobility work directly into his programmes rather than tacking it on at the end. He's seen firsthand that a stiff hip will hold back performance long before strength does, and that good range of motion is what keeps people training year after year instead of stalling or nursing nagging injuries.

Kyne's approach also extends beyond the gym floor. Breathwork and time outdoors are part of his programming alongside heavy lifting and conditioning, because controlled breathing improves recovery, sleep and stress management, and time in nature does wonders for energy and mental health. A dedicated Muay Thai practitioner and a keen follower of K-1, boxing and kickboxing, Kyne draws inspiration from martial arts traditions as well and their emphasis on the connection between body, breath and mind. For him, training should leave you feeling better than it found you, and be something you can enjoy for the long haul of life.

Coach

Kenneth Lee

Kenneth is an ISSA-certified Personal Trainer and ISSA Senior Fitness Instructor specializing in longevity-focused training for mature adults who want to maintain their mobility and dignity for the decades to come.

His approach begins with assessment, not assumption. Every client undergoes thorough screening sessions before any programming begins. This is a process designed to identify movement compensations, structural weaknesses, and imbalances that standard intake forms miss. That data becomes the foundation for a training block built around correcting weaknesses first, then building strength on top of a stable base.

This ground-up methodology reflects Kenneth's core training philosophy: the goal is not simply to work out, but to build the physical capacity that preserves independence and dignity for decades to come. Training decisions are made with the client's future self in mind. the version of them five, ten, twenty years down the line who will either benefit from the work done today, or pay for the work that wasn't.

For clients who believe that ability doesn't have to be surrendered to age, Kenneth's practice offers a structured, evidence-informed path to staying strong, mobile, and self-reliant.
